I am Ellen Rowe, a 22 year old living in London

Croydon Council Internship
At the beginning of 2025 I was offered the opportunity to take up an internship within the communication team of Croydon Council. In my time there I learned a lot about pipelines and working with people within the team to create engaging content for their social media and help brainstorm logos for the Executive mayors office.
For the logo design I used both Canva and Illustrator to create an original asset of the Croydon library tower to create a memorable design that screams Croydon
PROMOTIONAL POSTERS
One of my first tasks in the Council was to create promotional posters within Canva for the Croydon Council Newsletter. The posters had to be eye catching, easily readable and contain a link and QR code to the sign up website. Due to it being printed and placed in different parts of Croydon, I also had to create variants to fit the target demographic of different areas, such as the poster for somewhere with a older age demographic. In this design all the text was made larger, less busy visuals and a clear “scan me!” sign to give directions to those who may not get how QR codes work.
As this was work done for Croydon Council, I had to stick to the strict guidelines. Restrictions included sticking to the main colour of purple, as well as avoiding colours with a tie to a major political party. I also had to include the logo of the Council in the same spot in every poster, meaning I had to adapt visions and work around it to ensure it remained visible and readable.
I was also tasked to make social media assets too!
As I found my footing within my placement I was tasked with designing visuals for social media posts that could be adapted to several different platforms as needed. These posts needed to be eye catching, easily understood and give directions for the reader to check out the link that would be included in the post.
Using assets from Canva’s asset library I mushed and cut different graphics together to create simplistic yet eye catching design.
Various other works
Personal creative work
I have also done various works for friends creative projects and families business as seen below. “Home assist” was a small commission done for my Stepbrother who runs a business under the same name. He gave me images of handyman imagery like power tools. simplistic homes and curtains, which I took as inspiration to create a unique background and bold boarder for the flyer. He specifically requested I leave the middle blank so he may change and add information himself later on.
Creative Project
In collaboration with a close friend, I helped him design and format a Trifold flyer inspired by his creative writing. The aim was to create a dark, moody leaflet that calls on imagery of Abrahamic religions and subvert it to create something more unsettling. The main challenges I faced with this project was ensuring that when printed, the pages would be in order. I ended up printing it out myself and folding it multiple times to get it right.
